Whitby

Whitby is a seaport town in North Yorkshire, England, renowned for its seafaring heritage and spectacular landscape. Situated where the River Esk opens out to the sea, the town is overshadowed by the remains of the 7th-century Christian monastery of Whitby Abbey. The 199 Steps lead on to St Mary's Church, whose panoramic views of the town and harbour are extensive. Whitby boasts a vibrant seafaring tradition, having been a significant fishing harbour and whaling port, and is infamously associated with Captain James Cook, who worked as an apprentice in the town before embarking on his pioneering voyages.
