Founded in 1861 by Henry Pease, a prominent member of the Quacker family, the coastal town of Saltburn-by-the Sea is located in North Yorkshire, England.
Saltburn Pier, opened in 1869, is the town's most famous landmark, the town is also known for its Victorian architecture, the Saltburn Cliff Lift (built in 1884 and still in operation today), the Saltburn Miniature Railway (operating since 1947), and the town has a rich history of ironstone mining which began in the 1850s and continued into the early 20th century.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is located on the Cleveland Way, a 109-mile footpath along the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire coast, and the coastal town is also a popular destination for surfers, due to waves that can sometimes reach 10 feet high.
